I am a descendent of the first non-Indigenous settlers on North Pender Island. My family moved away from Pender when I was four, but returned regularly to stay with relatives. My parents retired to Pender in 1978. I studied economics at Simon Fraser University and spent most of my adult life living, working, and raising a family in Yellowknife. As a socioeconomic researcher I visited virtually every community in the Northwest Territories and many in Nunavut. My strong connection to the land and people of the Penders drew me home. We began our return in 2008 and settled here permanently in 2015. I am keenly interested in collecting and sharing the stories of our ancestors—Indigenous and non-Indigenous—and celebrating life on Pender.
