Rob is descended from the Auchterlonie and Grimmer families, two of the original European settler families on Pender Island. He grew up in the Vancouver area, with many trips to Pender as a child, and in 1976 obtained an engineering degree from UBC. This led to jobs in the telecommunications and satellite industries in Ottawa, Vancouver, New Zealand and the United Kingdom. After a career that included a variety of technical, managerial, marketing and project management positions, he retired and moved to Pender Island in 2015. In addition to museums, Rob’s interests also include history, travel, railways and gardening.
